This series explores connections between disparate worlds. The War Paint pieces highlight visual contrasts and similarities between the world of cosmetics, such as lipgloss displays, and skycrapers, missiles and jet fighters. The work explores affinities between fashion and military/industrial design.
Inspired by my dad’s map collection, the distinctive palette and classic conventions of A to Z and Ordnance Survey metamorphose into lines of footwear. Fusing designs for the body with schematic representation of landscape creates the effect of a Gestalt Switch where one can morph into the other.
On show at the Menier Gallery, as part of The Rookery Artists Collective: Inaugural Exhibition, 14th to 18th May, 2019.
